. . . .

Situated on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, Rab is the ideal holiday

place for those looking for a perfect balance of the quality of service, fun, enjoyment,

and hospitality.

The Island of Rab is the greenest island in the Adriatic as well as one of the sunniest

places in Europe, with as many as 2600 sunshine hours a year. Its mild Mediterranean

climate is an extra motive to visit Rab throughout the whole year.

The island’s capital, Rab (Latin Arba), is mentioned in the year 10 B.C. in an Ancient

Roman document, by which the Roman emperor of the period, Octavian Augustus,

proclaimed it a municipium and granted the town independence. Shortly after that, the

town received an honorary epithet felix (lucky), which tells us that already at that time

Rab was a developed and a civilized town, whose inhabitants enjoyed the benefits of

running water, thermae, theater, temples, and arranged streets.

The ancient town Rab (Felix Arba) has had the Municipium status (town status) for

more than 2000 years, something that the people of Rab are very proud of. The whole

island prospered due to the importance of its geographical position on shipping routes.

Throughout the entire Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Rab flourished thanks to

salt, wine, wood and silk trade.

The Island of Rab is surrounded by green holm oak forests and marvelous bays that

can easily be reached by island transport, and which offer the opportunity for an

endless enjoyment in the beautiful Rab archipelago...

The traditional cuisine of the island is rich with flavours based primarily on sea food,

home grown vegetables and meat, combined with typical local aromatic herbs and

spices. A very popular Rab specialty is the Rab Cake.

One of the biggest cultural manifestations on the island is the "Rapska Fjera", visited

by dozens of thousands of tourists each year. During the Fjera (25-27 July) the town

streets turn into a stage on which the participants in mediaeval costumes present

ancient arts and crafts. At the Fjera you can also try traditional Rab dishes. During

the final evening, the visitors can enjoy the knight tournament on St. Christopher’s

Square, where the arbalesters of Rab compete in shooting with an arbalest.

Finally, we can say that Rab is an island of culture, wonderful scenery, and kind

hosts. Come and see for yourselves!
